To whom it may concern
The Oppenheimer Memorial Trust has proudly partnered with Project Literacy Education Centre NPC for the past 7 years.
Project Literacy is deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of educationally disadvantaged adults, youth and
children, the beneficiaries of the organisation, throughout the Republic of South Africa by providing Adult Education and
Training from basic literacy to the training of AET Facilitators and through its Run Home to Read Project which provides
a school readiness training programme to pre-schoolchildren and their caregivers currently operating in Gauteng, North
West, Northern Cape, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu Natal, Free State and Limpopo Provinces.
We have been inspired by their commitment and dedication to their mission by remaining ahead of their field and their
resilience to adapt and change to prevailing conditions in the marketplace and to use funding received by them in the
most cost-effective and effective manner.
Project Literacy excels in the services they provide and in their AET programmes they achieve impressive exam results.
Participants in their Run Home to Read programme have also benefitted by coping better with their work when they go
to school and their caregivers and parents have been assisted to take an interest in their children’s development and
schoolwork.
We highly recommend them to any funder who wants to help make an impact in the work they do.
The Oppenheimer Memorial Trust provided funding to assist Project Literacy with operating expenses of its Run Home to
Read Programmes in Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga and Northern Cape. Following an extensive research project in
2021, we are shifting our strategic direction to a more systems-based approach. This change in strategy is the only reason
we are no longer partnering with them.
